An interview session with the President of Industrial Pharmacy Section, FIP
Received on July 5, 2022
Name: Sola Solarin
Country: Nigeria
Current Job Position: Managing Partner
Area of Expertise: Regulatory Affairs
Current Role in the SIG/Section: President, Industrial Pharmacy Section
Describe your experience in the SIG/Section: I have been in the ExCo of the IPS for 10 years, 7 years as Vice President, and I am in my second year as President. I have handled projects including managing section webinars and membership growth. I have been a speaker and chair at many conference sessions.
Please discuss a bit about your career path and how you have come to be in your current position: I started out in Marketing and Sales with a Pharmaceutical Multinational company in my native Nigeria. I left the company after 10 years as the head of the OTC/Generics business. Together with some friends, I purchased a pharmaceutical manufacturing business which I managed as the CEO for four years. I then set up a product development and marketing business, which developed and marketed four prescription medicine brands. I am presently running a Regulatory Affairs consulting business which I have been doing for 11 years. The company enables entry of products and companies into the African market by providing Product registration, Pharmacovigilance and Clinical Trial services (www.savanteconsulting.com)
How do you see the importance of FIP for the Pharmaceutical Profession? Opportunity for Continuous improvement, opportunity for networking with colleagues globally, promoting fair remuneration for pharmaceutical services and protecting the standards of pharmaceutical services and products.
Please share any suggestions or advice for early career pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists: Pharmacy will always be relevant. However, information technology, biotechnology and combination products will challenge our claim to expertise on medicines. It is important to have deep knowledge in a specific area of knowledge, while remaining open to developments in other fields.
How do you see the work and impact of YPG for early career pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists? AWESOME. The YPG provides a pool of expertise from which the FIP draws resources to execute special projects. Because most are digital natives, they have made the process of navigating the digital world easier for older colleagues and the FIP as an organization.
Please talk about past and current projects of this SIG/Section that you were involved in or passionate about: The Webinars, Membership Growth and The Value of Pharmacists in Industry.
